Douglas Che’ Miller M.D.

Dr. Che Miller attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK where his studies began as a preparation for medical school in 1994. He received a degree in Chemistry with special emphasis in Biochemistry in 1998. His research interests in Norman included groundbreaking research in geochemistry and a separate project in neurochemistry examining causes of Parkinson’s disease. In 1996, Che was offered a position
to teach Organic and Biochemistry at OU which he did while taking courses
to prepare for medical school. He received several awards including the
Phillips Petroleum Chemistry Scholar Award, the Department of Chemistry
Award, and the Undergraduate Teaching Award. In 1998, he graduated
with Honors and began medical school at the University of Oklahoma.
While in medical school he held a variety of leadership positions
ranging from President of his medical school class to Chair of the
Oklahoma State Medical Association Student Section. During
medical school he was selected as the Most Outstanding Medical
Student by his peers. As a senior he received the OU Leadership Award and Multicultural Service Award. After medical school, he was accepted to residency at the University of Oklahoma where he studied general and vascular surgery. For five years he practiced at the OU Medical Center in general, vascular, and trauma surgery.

While in residency, Dr. Miller's research interests included a wide range of subjects including trauma, cardiovascular disease, vascular surgery, meteorology, public health, residency education and disaster management. He has authored ten abstracts, three peer reviewed journals, and has presented his research at dozens of meetings and conferences. Dr. Miller has a special interest in mass casualty disaster management. He has been an invited lecturer on twenty-five different occasions on his work and recently was awarded the Surgical Research Award for his work in severe storm disaster management. He has recently been featured in interviews on XM Satellite Talk Radio, online medical education training modules, and in two articles in the nationally published journal AM News. In 2007 he was awarded the Aesculapian Award for the most outstanding resident teacher at OU and he also received the Lloyd and Ruth Rader award from the faculty as resident of the year. He recently was appointed to the Gold Humanitarian Honor society.

Dr. Miller is a leader in medicine locally and nationally. He has served as the chair of the Oklahoma State Medical Association residents section for 4 of the past 7 years. In 2005 he was elected as the chair of the resident body at the University of Oklahoma representing over 650 residents statewide. He was re-elected to the same position in 2006. At the same time, he was elected nationally as Speaker of the Resident Section of the American Medical Association (AMA). There he served as Secretary of the Governing Council of that organization. He was re-elected to this same position in 2006. He holds a seat on the Medical School Admissions Committee at the University of Oklahoma and was an advisor to the Graduate Medical Education Committee.

Throughout medical school and residency, Dr. Miller has dedicated much of his time to philanthropy. Both domestic and abroad he has contributed in the form of education and healthcare to seven nations on four continents. From ministry in a local bible school in Mexico to performing surgery in a mobile operating room in the rural Philippines, he devotes a block of time every year to missions. Dr. Miller was instrumental in developing and coordinating the largest foreign medical mission network in Oklahoma. From this he has gained knowledge of the healthcare system across the world, studied four languages, and been recognized by the leaders of several countries including the Governor of Mindanao, Philippines and the Minister of Health in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

Dr. Miller married Leah Callicoat in 1995. They welcomed daughter Ava Rae in August, 2007. Dr. Miller along with Dr. Phil Moyer began Duncan Surgical Specialists which is a comprehensive general, vascular and non-cardiac thoracic surgery office in the heart of the Duncan medical community. In addition, he will also continue to be on Staff at the OU Medical Center where he will provide Trauma Surgery coverage for the states only Level I Trauma Center.
